Great Ocean Road Icelandics

Our stud and training farm was established in Nullawarre (Victoria) in 2014. My partner Brad and I, Birgit, own and run the farm together.

I came to Australia in 2011 for some work and travel. Six months soon became a year, and so it began. I went back to Germany several times to complete my IGV (International Gaited Horse Association) Trainer C and B licenses.  I also travel all over Australia to help people with the training of their horses and to hold clinics. In Nullawarre we have started breeding on a small scale and I bought my own Australian bred stallion in 2018.

I am traveling back to Germany once a year to keep up with the latest training methods, catch up with family, and improve my own riding.  I also import and sell Icelandic Horse gear and some unique accessories.

We take the horses to many different events to help promote the breed in Australia (dressage clinics and competitions, working equitation, trail rides and we do displays at agricultural shows, Equitana and other events).

My breeding goal is to breed horses with exceptional temperaments. They have to be cooperative and positive towards the training. I like it when they are forward-thinking and brave, but very responsive at the same time. All my mares are started under saddle and I have also ridden most of their parents, sometimes even their grandparents. For me also important is lots of natural, easy trainable tolt. The confirmation has to be complementing the traits as a good riding horse (good self-carriage, strong legs, joints, and tendons as well as a strong back). We carefully match our mares with available stallions.

We breed a small number of foals each year to be able to provide the best care possible for all our horses. The foals are halter trained, microchipped and DNA tested early on and get their feet trimmed regularly. The young horses go through several blocks of groundwork in the first years until I start them under saddle once they are at least 4 years of age. In the meantime, they grow up in a herd environment with horses of all ages.

Sólskin from Pennys Road Icelandics AU2016106001

Solly is our very promising young stallion by Haukur frá Stuðlum. His dam Ára from Haldane Icelandic Horses is out of the proven broodmare Stikla fra Gudenådalen and Galdur frá Dæli (who is by Galsi frá Sauðárkróki). Solly has been very briefly started under saddle and has shown to have an outstanding temperament. We are very excited to be expecting his first foal by our Blikfaxa from Camlee in late December 2020. Solskin is also standing at stud for outside mares.

The fist foals we bred are out of the German stallion Lotto von Svaða-Kol-Kir. He passes on a lot of suppleness and forward thinking temperament.

In the future I am hoping to increase the breeding stock, offer lessons at home on Icelandic Horses and trail rides along our stunning coastline. Contact us if you are interested in any of our young stock, stallion services, horse training or lessons.

Litli Stadur Icelandic Horses

Litli Stadur Icelandic Horses focusses on breeding quality horses with good conformation, gaits and temperament. We imported several mares and stallions from Canada, the USA and Germany over the last 10 years to expand the Australian gene pool and to improve the quality of the horses.

Currently we own two stallions:

Lotto von Svada-Kol-Kir, (imp. Germany 2016) is one of only three fully evaluated first prize stallions in Australia with a fantastic pedigree. He is five gaited and has given his offspring lots of tölt as well as pace.

Gneisti von Roetgen, (imp. Germany) has been imported to New Zealand in 2005 and has many offspring there that are great, sensible riding horses. In 2015 we bought him in partner-ship with Narrawin stud and Margaret Swan and brought Gneisti to Australia.

Sales We offer a small selection of horses for sale, ranging from foals to ridden horses. We try to match people with the right horse and provide ongoing support to new owners.

Please check out our website for our current sales horses and get in touch via email, phone or facebook to get more information about the horses and to make an appointment to meet your dream horse!

Litli Stadur is located in Garvoc, VIC 3265
